Enough

Theresa BrownGold's painting "Enough" for her art project, Art As Social Inquiry.

(oil, acrylic on canvas, 48 ins. x 60 ins.)

“Enough” hangs upside down until President Trump no longer occupies the White House. Once gone, I will flip the painting right side up with our American flag on top.

I depict the President as a "king." He has flaunted the rule of law and behaved in a narcissistic, self-aggrandizing, divisive way with no apparent understanding of his duty to serve ALL the American people and not himself.

Once the painting is flipped right side up with the American flag on top, I show a battered country, as represented by the flag, but with its moorings intact.

Around Trump's crowned head, I list most of his transgressions. I want the painting to overwhelm the viewer much like Trump has tried to overload the public with news of so many offenses that we give up trying to keep up. Each offense is more egregious than the next. We become numb and inactive. We zone out thereby upending any attempts to hold him accountable.

Once the painting is flipped right side up with the American flag on top, I show a battered country, as represented by the flag, but with its moorings intact. We have the tools to rebuild. Those tools are listed in the painting’s stripes.

This painting is a call to Americans to VOTE VOTE VOTE for the Biden/Harris 2020 Democratic president and vice-president team as well as all the blue candidates down ballot.
